Here’s the most recent update on the shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia.

On Wednesday, a mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, resulted in the deaths of four people and left nine others hospitalized.

The suspected shooter, a 14-year-old student at the school located about an hour outside Atlanta, is currently in custody.

Here’s what we know:

**Victims**

The four individuals who lost their lives are:

- Mason Schermerhorn, a 14-year-old student

- Christian Angulo, a 14-year-old student

- Richard Aspinwall, a teacher

- Christina Irimie, a teacher

Both of the deceased teachers were math instructors, with Aspinwall also serving as an assistant football coach, as noted on the school’s website.

In addition to the fatalities, nine people — eight students and one teacher — were injured and hospitalized. All are expected to recover.

**Suspected Shooter**

The alleged shooter has been identified as Colt Gray, who will face murder charges and be tried as an adult.

Gray was previously questioned by law enforcement last year following “multiple anonymous tips about online threats to carry out a school shooting at an unspecified location and time,” according to the FBI Atlanta and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. At that time, there was insufficient evidence for an arrest.

**Timeline of the Shooting**

According to student Lyela Sayarath, the suspected shooter left the classroom at the start of their Algebra 1 class around 9:45 a.m. When he returned toward the end of the class, he knocked to be let back in. A fellow student noticed the gun through the door and did not open it. The shooter then proceeded to the adjacent classroom and began firing.

The sheriff’s department was first alerted to the shooting around 10:20 a.m. Law enforcement arrived shortly after, joined by two school resource officers assigned to Apalachee High School.

One of the resource officers confronted the shooter, who surrendered immediately and was taken into custody, as reported by Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith.

During the incident, all schools in the district were placed on lockdown, and police were dispatched to every district high school as a precaution. The FBI and ATF later joined local and state officials at the scene, according to Attorney General Merrick Garland.

**The Investigation**

Law enforcement sources reported no additional incidents or scenes. The firearm used in the shooting was identified as an AR-platform weapon, with initial reports suggesting it was an AR-15-style rifle, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Earlier that morning, Apalachee High School received a phone threat indicating shootings would occur at five schools, with Apalachee being the first target, multiple law enforcement officials told CNN.

GBI Director Chris Hosey stated there is no current evidence suggesting other schools were targeted. Investigators are exploring any potential connections to associates of the shooter but have found no indication of additional shooters or a list of targeted schools at this time.

Schools in the county will remain closed for the rest of the week as the investigation continues.
